This is the last bigger picture I've been working on in the past weeks. No, actually it was pretty much finished two weeks ago, but I decided to let it rest for a while to see if I could find anything to improve. I didn't (or, more acurately, I was too lazy to look), an have therefore labelled it 'finished'.
Description:
It's a piece of fan art dedicated to the great game of Homeworld and the people who made it. I love the designs of that game, I love the environments and I love the mood in the game.
What you can see on the painting is a Kushan Assault Frigate (the big thing to the left), another of the same kind (to the right), an Ion Cannon Frigate (top), a destroyer (top right), a carrier (bottom) and asteroids (everywhere). All ships are paintovers based on several screenshots from the game (I had to cheat because I have much yet to learn about perspective) but with higher detail and partially based on HW concept art.
Tools:
Photoshop 7.0, Wacom Graphire 3.
Time:
No clue. Countless hours, coming in 5-10 hour clusters spread across three months.
Comments:
Note to self: less purple next time. Oh, but I am pretty pleased with the result, considering I have much more skills in rendering organic shapes than blocky metal warships hanging in space.
Finally, thanks to the frequenters of the Relicnews forums who kept me going and provided me with both compliments and critique.
Yeah, that turned out pretty damn good. It was my wallpaper on this machine for, I think 2 straight weeks. (That's a pretty long time as far as wallies go on this desktop.)
The quality on the ships impresses me, so great job.
Ah! The wonders of Homeworld...I need to do more fan art for that. And for someone who prefers organic shapes to machines (like myself, for one), you did an awesome job! Nice perspective there, and very neat colors. I think the purple is fine. My only beef is that the distant "nebula" area looks curved...like some kind of wall in space. But that's beside the point, considering the rest rules. And where have you been for so long?

I was actually thinking about it as a kind of wall, wrapping around the scene. Bit unusual thought, maybe.
I've been... around. Been busy. Just couldn't get myself to finish or upload anything for a while.
There are a lot of themes that run through the stock gallery many people have similar ideas but they pull them off in different ways. In this series of newsletters we will look at similar ideas but different outcomes.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

Years are like fractals. The more you've seen of them, the more you appreciate the details of each one, rather than how many you've seen.
